The Canadian Music Therapy Trust Fund (CMTTF) has created a special fund in honor of Josée Préfontaine to celebrate the achievements of this exceptional music therapist. During her career in music therapy, Josée received support from the CMTTF to implement several projects. Shortly before she died of leukemia in 2006, Josée received the Frani Award, which highlighted her important contribution to music therapy in Canada.
Funds are raised for the Josée Fund of the CMTTF through a variety of activities such as benefit concerts and silent auctions, in addition to joining with the CMTTF fundraisers for the annual Music Therapy March in March, which is National Music Therapy month.
The Josée Fund provides grants to help fund pilot projects that will raise awareness of music therapy and promote music therapy services in Quebec.
